Dubspot’s LA EDU Sessions continue welcoming Econtii Music Group’s Portia Mazone for a free workshop focused on resources that can help artists move into the professional realm of creation. Topics of discussion include performance rights organizations, apps that help with split sheets, industry seminars, music festivals, and organizations in the community that aid in artist support and advancement.
About Portia Mazone
Portia graduated from Florida A&M University (FAMU) with her B.S. in Journalism in 2010, and went onto complete her Masters in Applied Social Science in 2011. Interested in music & arts, she earned a certificate in Music Recording from FAMU as well, working with such programs as Pro-Tools and Logic. While in undergrad, Portia founded Econtii Music Group (formally known as Econtii Entertainment). In 2013, Portia moved to Atlanta, GA to build and expand her brand and completed her Juris Masters in Intellectual Property Law, from Emory University School of Law, in 2014.
Portia has been published on several media outlets, her most noted is on Black PR Wire for her article “Hip Hop Goes Green”, which describes the ‘Green Movement’ and how it impacts the music industry. She continues to work with independent and signed artist to help develop their brand. Additionally, she is currently the Project Manager at Plug Enterprises, LLC which is recognized as one of the most influential music-media-branding companies in the industry.
Apart from being involved in the entertainment industry, Portia has also made a conscious effort to bring awareness to prisoner reentry reform and continues to fight for racial equality. She has worked with the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community (IDVAAC) as a consultant on the Safe Return Initiative (SRI) Project, which focused on helping successful reunification of newly released prisoners and their families. In addition to, she has also worked on the Specialized Courts grant project with the Center for Court Innovations to help shed light on the topic of cultural competence among battered women of color in the U.S. court systems.
Portia is now working on her Juris Doctor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. She’s expected to graduate in the Spring of 2017. Upon completion, she hopes to practice entertainment, civil rights and criminal defense law. No matter if its entertainment or social justice, Portia’s work ethic is non-stop.
