The Matthew Steven Azar Ableton Scholarship
In collaboration with Bridging Education and Art Together NYC (B.E.A.T NYC), Dubspot is proud to award The Matthew Steven Azar Ableton Live Scholarship to celebrate the memory of Matthew Aza, a promising young musician who was tragically killed by a drunk driver.
The scholarship was established through the efforts of Matthews father, Steven Azar to honor his son and help other aspiring musicians attain their dreams in the music industry. Matthew’s dream was to attend Dubspot NYC, and through this scholarship the gift of music will be passed down to another young music lover in Matthew’s honor.

Scholarship Contest and Winning Essay
Aspiring artists had an opportunity to take part in a scholarship contest developed by Dubspot and B.E.A.T. NYC, whose mission is to transform the lives of youth in under-served areas through music, dance, and writing programs.
Congratulations to our contest winner, Richard Hauser, a young jazz and rock guitar player who found new creative life through hip-hop. We are looking forward to hearing what you will do with your new found production knowledge as you develop your craft through Dubspot’s Ableton Live Music Production Program.
Richard writes in his winning essay “In a world wrought with greed, narcissism, and fear, music is the great catalyst for progress. Music is the human spirit’s audible existence. Through vibrations of sound, our legacy is made permanent. Our experiences are shared. Our feelings are felt again. Our soul is granted eternal life. I want to create music that spreads an ideal: love is the only worthy expression and through music it lives forever. Pursuing my artistic endeavors in the legacy of Matthew is the perfect beginning to a life of artistic expression in which this ideal can flourish.”
Ableton Live Producer Certificate Program
The flagship of our music training, with every Ableton Live course offered at the school. After completing this program, you will leave with a portfolio of original tracks, a remix entered in an active contest, a scored commercial to widen your scope, and the Dubspot Producer’s Certificate in Ableton Live.

This program is about learning Ableton Live by going through the entire process of being an artist, by developing your own sound through a series of sketches and experimentation. You will also learn the ins and outs of this powerful software through a series of exercises designed to help you master the steps involved in producing your own music. After a level of getting familiar with the tools that Ableton has to offer, you will then develop your sonic ideas into full-length tracks. You will be exposed to a variety of approaches to arrangement and composition, storytelling techniques, ways of creating tension and drama in your music. At the end of the day, it is the sum total of your choices as an artist that define your sound, and levels 2 – 6 will give you the experience of actually completing tracks to add to your portfolio.
